Using .038 wire rather than .045 wire will help. You mentioned it is "new". Brand new or new to you. If new to you, it may have been dropped and something is bent.  If brand new, it may be defective and/or the rollers are not aligned correctly.  At any rate you can take the top cover off and inspect it.
