My company built one of first fiber projects back in 1977 Topeka Ka from Office to Warehouse across town, Then we did one of first long haul cross country fiber projects for MCI back in 1981 from Pittsburgh to Baltimore, I did aerial and my buddy did the underground. We got $3.00 per ft and $165 for a splice every 20,000 or maybe some time when we had to cut for a hard pull bore.
So as you can see....todays pricing is based on knowledge from the past and updated test/splice equipment and construction tools.
