I have a really good working relationship with most people I work for. Luckily, in situations like the one you described, they understand that it is a pain and will throw in a little extra. Not always, but most times. They take care of me and I take care of them. I am truly blessed with most of my customer base. Very rarely do I have complaints about billing and even more rarely am I asked to give bid prices ahead of time. They know what my basic pricing scheme is and can budget accordingly. I don't try to retire off of a single job and they keep sending work. Again, I am very lucky, but that luck has been built over a quarter century of relationship building as well.
