I have been splicing fiber since 1993 and I have only had to do one taught sheath splice. That was around 2001. Sure, in a pinch, it works. But the reward is not worth the risk. Either plan for the extra slack and do a standard midsheath or section in with 2 splices. If they are planning taught sheath splicing for NEW construction, that tells me 3 things. The budget is very tight, they dont care about the future issues involved and they dont care about the people splicing. All 3 standard things.
If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. Quit being part of the problem!
