I haven't talked to a single plant manager or construction manager that hasn't been ripped off by a contractor. I've been told several times, "I know you're gonna screw me, I just don't know when."
Don't make yourself a liar & a thief just because the boss is a liar & a thief. I have personally take a beating to make sure I can walk away with my hands clean. Admittedly, it has taken many years to reap the benefits. I don't get calls from jack legs that don't even have a set of spec's. I don't get calls from neer-do-wells that change pricing the day you show up for the job, or worse yet, 2 weeks in.
But I have been blessed to work for a few of the best men, not only in the industry, but in life. They're out there, but if my own heart & mind ain't right, I'll never see them.
Just a thought.
