I’m not trying to defend the company you worked for but you need to understand the difference between a employee and a 1099 contractor. A employee can get all kinds of Benifits like insurance, unemployment and workman’s compensation, company vehicle, and probably paid hourly. Whereas a 1099 contractor will not have any benifits, insurance or company vehicle and pay is probably piece rate or per job. A lot of companies do 1099 because they aren’t responsible for payroll tax deductions, insurance, or workman’s compensation if you get hurt the also don’t pay the expense of issuing you a vehical.
