This scares me. This is why we see so many outages due to poor craftsmanship, any company that allows this deserves the outages. I'm not trying to knock you, I'm sure you are a real quick learner. However, to do quality work, with quality results, you need experience. Splicing is not difficult, but it is easy to screw up.
