I always believed in this industry OJT was the best teacher. Find a some one to take you under his wing to teach you the in's and outs of the business. Even your Dad ,if he has time could teach you some basic. But sitting in the class room will not get you ready for whats out in the Field. See if there is a company that would hire you as a grunt on a line crew and watch and learn from them, then move on to splicing etc, but learn the basic first and working on a line crew will do that.
    My son worked with me several times in the summer after college was out for the semester to earn money for college, but I never wished him to follow in my footsteps, living on the road away from my family, dealing with Jack Legged companies , grant it I made great money but I sacrificed a lot also. He graduated from Pitt with an Enginnering Degree and is doing great.
