I don't know Microman nor do I have a "dog in this fight" pertaining to the debate about his CV, however; I am curious to know more about the laser that was used in the 1977 fiber build?
It's my understanding that ATT Engineers first installed an experimental fiber system first in 1976 using a gallium-arsenide semiconductor laser for an experimental 2000 meter-long fiber run under the streets in ATL. This was ATT's first trial run and even with the deep pockets they had, it took them another year to do their next fiber "build" in Chicago. So how could this "technology" in 1977 (per Microman) be commercially available and at a price that someone in Topeka, KS could have 1.) access to it 2.) and afford running fiber to a warehouse?
