Way back - are you ready... but in 1979, we got 8 hours straight time pay for just being on call for the week plus the time and 1/2 for time on all calls and they ( Jones Intercable ) would let us run small things besides outages if the customer wanted it.
Then, one of our techs came up with the idea, as their was only 8 of us working a 500 mile plant, that if we could train a couple more to technicians for call, meaning seven of us, we then went to a 1 day on call per week - and what a milestone that was. Different day each week and never a whole weekend. We would run anything that called in for service.
Now I am not sure that would work these days, but it sure was cool back then.
