According to some of the rhetoric that has been brought up in new contract negotiations is that TWC is concerned with exposure, risk and image. They are promoting a new image and they want everyone representing them to look uniform in the image, ie trucks, uniform and technicians (youthful age) The way that they have began to restructure the business model is they are having the contract firms have to hire technicians at a low hourly rate and they put the newly trained tech in a company owned truck an let them runaround doing poor installs and forcing the mature tech out of the field because the pay is no longer there. (age Discremination) . The new model is the brain child of a Sr. VP that is over the California market and he has been given the Texas market to adapt the model that has been used in California.
By making all Techs employees of the sub company, they mak the sub responsible for the trucks, gas, and insurance on the trucks and on the jobs. This way TWC is not exposed to points of liability when it comes to accidents in the vehicle or on a worksite. When some knuckle head walks into a ladder on the back of cable truck and he sees that it is a TWC installer and decides to cry "Lawsuit" then TWC can say, this tech does not work for TWC he works for a sub contractor, go sue them. They are trying to say that the government is making all Cable companies do it but that true. In other words. They are just working overtime crushing the working guy.
