the fcc is ruling that customers should have options on what set top boxes they can use to recieve cable programming. As it stands you order cable you get the cable companies boxes end of story. While consumer electronics prices have steadily gone down the price of cable boxes has risen almost 200 percent.Now the fcc wants some competition in that market to lower prices for consumers. The cable companies are fighting it but the fcc sems intent on doing this. They want people to be able to use their roku boxes and others to replace existing cable boxes. And in my opinion there is no reason they couldnt use the digital tuners that are built into new tv,s
