Waiting for your ship to come in, to strike it rich. In the 1800's people would invest in shipping companies,These companies such as the Far East Indies Co. would sail around the world trading and buying goods, The people who invested in these companies would go to the docks and wait for their ship to come in to reap the rewards of the cargo. Thus when you tell somebody "I'm waiting for my ship to come in" you hope to strike it rich.
