Although I don't use them much anymore I think I still have 5 or 6 J lashers 2 C lashers. I personally always carried 2 J lashers. Bump a C lasher. The J's which weighs 50-58 lbs loaded (I think) pull better. More wieght on the drive roller means they don't slip on the strand like a C lasher that weighs around 20 lbs less (I think). The weights may be wrong but I think I'm close.
As Danimal said most work is over lash which will usually knocks a C out. J is pretty universal on most packages. I have seen packages J lashers wouldn't fit like the packages leaving the head end etc. But its your best all around option, I guess if I had alot of new build with small packages I would consider a C.
Alot of people will take off parts to make it easier for what they are doing. Like the rear tailgate or strand lock. Depending on what they are using it for.
Good luck
