Klein is always a safe bet but no matter what end of phone work he's in, I think these are a safe and affordable bet:
Klein tools model 2100-8 Electrician's scissors and the Klein model VDV026-049 long nose connector crimping pliers, both of which can be purchased at Home Depot or on Ebay. At HD they are about $40 for both.
