From an absent dawg like you.
I understand the the old CATV stuff & the POTS lines are the same. Make sure you have DT before you leave the few homes where a landline is still in use. Not so much double play anymore.
What would be helpful is understanding the coax runs for former sat installations...all homeruns you can build CATV from.
But the biggest thing I have heard about = the internet service through CATV companies; the third play. You have to have enough computer savvy to quickly realize that some customer equipment will never support internet service. Get out of there early.
From that, there are so many pieces of crap connected to house systems that there is a greater chance you will be blamed for damaging some antique rig. Turn everythin on & test B4 work begins.
Then you need to splice Cat 5 fittings for ethernet runs & use wi-fi eq. Have a good tester!
This is not the answer to your question.....just a restatement. Every now and then the urge to strap on a van and go have something comes to me....but it passes. I'll watch and wait with you as someone with recent knowledge helps us.
