I was a contractor for years, everything from installs and construction to headends and tower work. Did my share of being a road warrior including an 8 year stint in Japan.
Along with developing my OJT skills I took classes and other training. Now I design, coordinate, oversee construction, installation, activation and maintenance of fiber for government projects. I work between 25 and 70 hours a week depending on what's going on at the time. I am no longer contracting, I am a employee. While I miss the road at times I am glad I'm done with the headaches of contracting. My salary check is in the bank ever two weeks, no having to track down some scumbag trying to rip me off, no more fighting for retention after a contract ends, no more having to do my job while at the same time networking to lineup the next one. Yeah I miss the friends, seeing this and other countries, and more or less being my own boss, but after 25 years of it I'm glad to be able to come home every night.
