there is a battery that you charge, with the power cord, there is also a battery usually like a watch type battery,(nicad) that stores your settings and memory, if you power on your meter  and have to reprogram your settings every time, it is the wafer type (nicad) BATTERY THAT IS BAD, if you are just having trouble turning your meter on it is the battery that you are charging that is bad. you do not charge the nicad type battery it is usually soldered into the motherboard it is strictly for memory, while your meter is off or the charge is gone on your battery. it is automatically replaced when your meter is calibrated as part of the fee.
