1 pole span should not make a difference in IP address being issued. Some of our distances between our QPSK mod/demod sets to a box in a customers house are in the 200,000'+ range and latency between them hasn't been a problem.
A reason for boxes not get IP's is if the box count per QPSK demod is too high or if you are having a noise problems from multiple nodes that are combined in the QPSK demod.
You say signal quality down and up are good, how are you measuring the input to the demod at the headend to confirm good US SNR on the box return data carrier?
