We balance our downstream digital carriers 6 db below the highest analog carrier. On our upsrteam the carriers are 6.4 Meg wide and we like to nothing over 50 and nothing under 35. On our upstream we are using QAM 256 modulation, and like to see 29 db or better C/N on the upstream and 30 or better MER on the downstream. We have some modems at -9 on the downstream but if possible I like to redesign those areas. At -15 you are going to see less than desirable MER and C/N thats going to have the modem re-transmitting parity bits so some customers may complain if speed problems.
