A minor correction. When you state "Can a species evolve to cope with its surroundings such as climate and food source then I will have to say yes.", that is overwhelmingly considered adaptation by the scientific community. Many species have adapted.
There is no documentated or proven case of ANY species evolving. This is a theory and only a theory to explain scientific life as we know it. Let me elaborate. Electricity is a theory. No one has ever seen an electron move through a conductor. It is a theory, based only on cause and effect. Likewise, evolution.
In addition, no scientist or man has ever created any form of "life" from the basic elements that we know to exist. To that end, there are MANY theories that try to explain what "kick started" life from the "primordial goo". Rubber Duckie out.
