Yea, the conditions we see are very sad. Its quite an eye opener. This is by far not the worst situation but one that really stuck with me:

going to a sub in sec. 8 .... sitting on the stairs was a young child and his mother... I said "Hi, how are you doing?.." The kid spoke up and said "I'm hungry". now the kicker is his mother chimes in and says "Me too"...

I think that interaction summarizes what we get to see on a weekly basis...
