Your message really needs to be heard. All this background checking is CYA for the client MSO or HSP. They don't want to be mentioned on the evening news or in court because the ax murder they hired reverted to past behavior.
That being said there are plenty of important and profitable deals in tech work. As you say, your guys are no saints. It is like in the Roman Empire......they had some pretty tough guys out on the walls working the spears and kicking paganus ass. The generals were never allowed to bring their armies back to Rome.
