8. What type of registration do I need if I install residential satellite systems or car stereos/alarms?
An Electronic Service Dealer registration is required to install residential satellite systems, unless you have a Contractor's License issued through the Contractors State License Board (CSLB). A Contractor's License is required for commercial systems (apartments, restaurants, hotels, etc.). For information about CSLB, visit their web site at www.cslb.ca.gov.
An Electronic Service Dealer registration is required to install car stereos and alarms, unless you have a Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) registration. For information about BAR, visit their web site at www.smogcheck.ca.gov. If you repair either the stereo or alarm equipment, you must have the Electronic Service Dealer registration issued by BEAR.
