I would go along with what you say,
The idea of influence is pretty wide. I just think there is more to this than just one or two factors. My guess is that there is some early damage or defect that produces these killers and sends them to public gatherings to do public damage.
And I would want to look beyond the FBI or the US Army for research results. These institutions deal with an aspect of what guns can do but there is more to look at. Just removing guns and video games is not enough, in my opinion.
