You misunderstand the true meaning of religion,
re-li-gion. Noun: a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects.
So, in a sense you could consider atheism a type of religion, based on that definition, lets see if it fits the bill.
the term religion by itself does not mean god, or Christian, or holy bible. There are many religions in the world that do not believe the same as Christians. Leave it to a Christian to take one word and claim it as Christian when the word in its self has nothing to do with one set religious practice.
Witchcraft is a religion, Wicca is a religion, Satanism is a religion, Buddhism is a religion...
The one thing you did key in on as they need to be more specific in the terminology they use. I've been guilty of it myself, grouping the idiotic religions together under the one term of 'religion', when instead, maybe I should have been using a more specific term "Protestant, Catholic, Judaism" The fanatic religions that are not based on facts, but instead, based on faith and fairy tales.
