I read the whole post and Rush is partly right. Liberty and capitalism are a part of how we did so well as a country, the major reason we did so well is a public educational system and a public library system where all had access to information regardless of economic status. With those two things it gave the intelligent ones with ambition a way to further themselves and build on the accomplishments of those that came before them. Up until the late 1800's we were about the same as the rest of the world, this is when local governments started mandating education and the feds jumped on board by the 20'th century. Prior to the development of an educaional system in the U.S most of the technology was imported from Europe.
