World Series

Let's think of this system of voting like the World Series.

Imagine that Team A plays Team B in 7 different contests, or games.

When Team A wins, it's always a blowout, like 9 runs to 2. They manage to win 3 games of the Series.

When Team B wins, they do so barely. Score is usually 1-0. They win 4 games of the Series and are declared the winner.

Now, if you total up all the runs for Team A, you can imagine that they have way outscored Team B. Should Team A be declared the winner of the Series since they got the greatest number of runs in the entire Series?

The fact is, it is 7 different contests, with a declared winner from each contest. The Presidential race is the same way, with 50 different contests. It's just that some contests are more heavily weighted than others.
