My father was taken prisoner on Corregidor and spent 39 months as a POW. He often said Mitsubishi owed him a few cars because of all the work they had him do during the war. He told me he hated his capators but not tthe Japanese people, some of which smuggled food to him and his fellow prisoners. If they had been caught they would have been executed along with my father and anyone else around.After going through that and more he never held it against the Japanese people.

I do wish he would have lived long enough to meet my wife I know he would have loved her. She has his picture in a shrine along with her paarents pictures and makes offerings to them on holidays and birthdays. I think she remembers him better than the rest of my family.

Anyway you're right about war. It changes everyone in one way or another.
