Yeah I am the same way... I never give back any of my keys.. You never know when you are going to be back. I found a old guy that was doing locks for 50 years and he made me a key. I know it was protected but a grinder fixed that. If they make you a key and its a "do not duplicate/protected" its like a 10,000 or 100.000 fine. The old man was the only one that had the same type of key to even make it. I must have went to 10 locksmiths to get this key made. UGH. It was a total pain..
