I personally don't believe that is the case with Dan.
In fact, I believe that he KNOWS the truth but don't want to accept it out of rebellion.
I would have to say (that like EVERYONE else who has ever lived) Dan has had something pretty traumatic happen and rather than accept it he finds it so much easier to blame God for it.
