Standard NAM-550 Modulators

Anyone know if the Standard NAM-550 modulator can be set-up with a copper mono audio input if unit has been upgraded for the 4.5 Mhz steroe audio input??  I can't seem to get audio out with a mono input or audio deviation but seems to work fine with stereo(4.5 Mhz.) input. Any help is appreciated.
