Re: instructing telco techs on catv

The first thing a tech should know is how to use a sig. meter. Next would be how to read a print, esp. powering and tombstones. Like scarltonark says make sure they all know the basics first. Then all you have to do is teach them how to set up an amp, forward and return. How to splice. Trouble shoot any problems using different equipment like a volt/ohm meter, TDR, ext. How to fig. cable and tap loss. Then once they find a prob. how to fix it (even if it's temp. until the sun comes up and you can get the right parts). You might also want to explain leakage to them and why a system needs to be tight.  Oh yeah then there's the power supplys.  Good luck.
