You stated that:
Some have concluded that when Jesus faced a painful death, his confidence in God wavered.
Well I respectfully disagree. That would mean that Jesus had "some" doubt, fear, or lack of faith.
That would be "sin" and Jesus lived a totally sinless life, otherwise He would not be qualified to pay the penalty for our sin.
God is TOTALLY Holy and cannot even be in the presence of sin.
Jesus took the sins of the world to the cross with Him and at that moment was bearing the sins of the world.
Therefor God, being TOTALLY Holy, at that point, could not even look at Jesus.
Before doing what Jesus did, He must have known ahead of time that at that moment (When He carried ALL of our sin) that God would have to look away, and even though He knew that, it was probably even more painful than all the torture that He endured.
God CAN NOT look at sin, and for those that have accepted Jesus Christ He sees no sin, because ALL of our sin has been washed away by the blood of Christ.
