Agreed.  A piece of paper is useless, unless you know what to do in the field.  No matter how good the trainer or program is, it is no good without field experience.  Look around.  Find a job with a contractor in your area.  Work your way up.  Sure, if you want to get the certificate, it wont hurt a thing.  Just dont expect to be able to call yourself a fiber splicer with a piece of paper and not any real world experience.........Just my opinion.
