Chainsaw would work. If thats not possible, depending on what part of the country your in, get a compass, or if you have an android smart phone you can get the AR Satellite app (free) and it will show you pretty accurate where the satellites are, generally Dish points southwest, with an elevation between 38 and 44 the, and directv is almost due south with an elevation between 48 and 55. If you can set a pole mount on the other side of the tree in the LOS you should be okay. Dishnetwork pole would be an 1 5/8 OD, DirecTV pole is 2" OD. I would call and get a 2nd opinion, you may have just got a lazy installer, especially if he was going to have to run a lot of cable, or do alot of work...happens alot more than you think.
