o, you gonna leave the customer with poor service, your there for service, fix it!
Here is your official responses to this BS....
I am an installer not a cable detective. If you need cable detective services rendered add it to the work order.
The work orders I am provided specify what is to be installed. If something additional needs to be installed, include it on the work order.
Service techs trouble shoot. I am contracted to install. If you don't have a work order specifying something to be installed I do not perform any work.
So the dude is complaining about stuff that is already installed. Are you a service tech? Hell no. You don't have the foggiest idea what needs to be replaced nor are you compensated to find out. Furthermore you weren't trained for service tech work during your 3 days of installation ride-outs not to mention you probably don't have any service tech credentials or certifications. It's obvious this dude needs a service tech to properly troubleshoot the problem so a work order can be created for whatever needs to be installed. Tell the dude to call for a service appointment. You installed your A/O, you replaced the drop. Your a greedy capitalist bastard so every house you go to gets a new drop since you can replace and bill for it regardless of how long it's been there and they only take 15-30 minutes to hang most of the time. After all your a top notch installer. You don't play cable detective with drops, you install new ones.
You did what was on the work order. Now trust me, after you tell the dude to schedule a service call someone is going to steal from you. Once someone does steal your money for troubleshooting that is not on a work order you just go pay your $100 at small claims court. Since you told the dude to schedule a service call I am sure you went ahead and took pictures of the job, noted the work order, had the customer sign off, and lined all of your evidence ducks in a row. Why did you line your ducks in a row? Because you already know the man is a real prick. Then you call left wing socialist media that loves to spin stories about a little guy getting screwed by greedy capitalists to generate some local embarrassing PR.
When you go to small claims court you just argue the scopes of work. The douche on the other side is going to try to claim some last man contract BS. The key here is that valid enforceable contracts are not UNLIMITED for one party. So get into the specifics. What is the maximum length of cable to be installed included in this scope of work or what is the maximum amount of materials to be installed. What is the maximum amount of time required? Get into the nitty gritty of the LIMITS. Since you probably know the douche sitting on the other side of the court room it shouldn't be that hard to know in advance where is he going to fook up in small claims.
After you win this contest hands down and the prime is also reimbursing your court costs... go xerox 50, 100, or 200 copies of the judgement as needed to hand one out to every person at your shop. Boast like a mofo and let everyone know you stuck it to the man because your probably about to be fired anyway. Might as well give the next guy that is going to be screwed some confidence on how to deal with it.
Since your doing top notch installation work on everything you touch and customers constantly call into the MSO to rave about how wonderful you are... getting another job won't be a problem. Eventually you will end up with a decent gig. May or may not be in cable. You might eventually find a nice local joint that does home automation or something cool. But while your traveling from here to there don't take poop from this industry. Stand up for yourself and grow a pair.
