Re: prevailing wage work

There is a reason you are a sub, cause the prime knows he can NOT make it doing prevailing wages.   Each region in the US has post prevailing wage rates and Per Diem rates.  You don't have to be union to be paying prevailing wages.  You have to maintain certified payroll records, You have to pay overtime in excess 40 hour week, The prime will 1099 you as a contractor, you will have to W-2 each of your employee's, you must have insurance/work comp/if union pay extra into benefit funds and in some cases this will be up to 50% of his base pay. The entire process is under davis bacon act, lots of paper work, good for the employee-not for the sub.     This can be very profitable if your in this trade and do it as a living but to go from units to prevailing......Better watch your ass, not only can you loose but your have the IRS and labor board on your ass for many years.  Just do the job, do your paper work, be safe and your make out ok but don't think your crew is going to work like they do on units...don't take them long to figure out hourly is better than units.   You can always pay more than established rate, as a bonus...but you can't pay less.

Good Luck-your be walking on eggs till you learn how to play the game.      Mastec has a fiber job going on now w/prevailing wage rates.
BE SURE YOUR RATE IS FOR Outside plant...not Inside plant.   On advantage the prime has to pay you on time.

You'd be better to hire on with the prime, he can pay you and your men and then pay you for your equipment...your walk away with more funds in your pocket and sleep better at night.....IRS is a bitch...like dog shit on your line boots........................................microman
