I got a call to do work for a new construction company. (can't say the name)
The project manager told me to show up my first day dressed as if I was going to church.
When I came into the office my first day of work I asked what I was supposed to do. I was told to go out and just "watch" the guys working, setting anchors and ground rods.
I was told that if any of the AT&T guys showed up to tell them that this is my first day on the job and that I was replacing a supervisor named "Joe" that had just been fired the day before.
Well, sure enough the AT&T guys showed up and started cussing me out for setting ground rods without locates and said that we have been kicked off the project.
I told them that I had no idea what they were talking about, that this is my first day on the job and we have our locates. I have no idea what happened yesterday, that "Joe" was in charge then and was fired and that I have not been told why.
I had a nice conversation with the AT&T guys and we all did lunch together.
Come to find out, that the first day the company started work they had no permits or locates, but instead of doing nothing they went out and sank ground rods and ran one through a main telephone cable and shut down 911 for all of St.Petersberg FL.
Not wanting to get kicked off the project, someone dreamed up this guy "Joe" and put the blame on him.
Well it worked and from that day on any time something went wrong we just blamed it on "Joe"
