Yes, Andy Whitfield died of Cancer shortly before season three was to film. The whole reason behind the prequel was to give him time to seek treatment, however after treatment he decided he wanted to spend time with his family, shortly after he passed away. He was really great as Spartacus. This new guy seems okay, the fact that the first season was on so long ago, many may not know the original actor and may enjoy this guy's performance as well. Both the first season and Blood and Sand were really good. The first Episode of season 3 was good too.
