For companies that have not paid me and I start to contract with them, I space their jobs out and they are on low priority. I don't mind taking the risk of a couple small jobs not paying. If they don't I tell them to screw off. You can tell a lot about a company in the beginning. Get to know the people of the company you are contracting with and you will not feel too much hurt.
