i dont understand you say he installed an outdated kaku,do you mean the odu/dish or are you referring to the ird/reciever?  Secondly if the equipment is getting shipped how does the tech have other outdated equipment?  Regardless of any of that there isn't anything that could be installed and activated recently that could have screwed an upgrade, the hsp can switch irds with a phone call
