bigones, what you are referring to is an inhouse check versus a third party. So the employer would have to go directly to the courthouse to solicit your records. Almost all use the third party because it keeps them from being sued. In other words when you sue you go after the background company not the company that is hiring you. Some companies will use these cheap online databases to prescreen you so they wont have to pay for an expensive thourough check from a reputable background company. And it is just a database search and record dump. For all you know there could be something showing up from someone with the same name on your background check. Thats why they are required to supply you with a copy so you can check it for mistakes. And trust me ive had five done recently and there were mistakes on every one of them. And when you apply there is usually a checkbox that ask you if you want a copy of the report ,you should always check that box.
