Have never used one of those figure 8 machines. I use condux winches, set up in series. The less 8's you gotta drop, the better. I like setting up close to the middle of the reel, and pulling the longest distance I can off the reel. Thus,,creating less, too drop off the reel, and turn and go the other way. Depending on how many setups, of course.
I always use a reel man spinnin the reel, it's more controllable,and less friction is the name of the game. A little grease on the bar and level the reel out,,,no problem...Anyway,,,not everyone can be a reel man. Heh heh heh heh!!!!!!! Probably the old school way, but that's what works for me.
