It was first called a cable divider and was designed to seperate multiple cables when lashing. Only 10" long, it wasn't long enough to straighten out any weewah's. So,, somewhere down the line a linemen figured out that if he made it longer, say 24", that it would straighten out most weewah's. Hence the name, majic box.
weewah: a bend exceeding 1/8" in a straight cable between points A and B. Nobody said anything about twisted cable.
