Joe50 The only difference between a man in the headend and a tech in the field with good equipment is the skill level of the field guy. If you use a talented HE tech you can pretty well send any untrained guy(gal?) into the field. As long as they know basic cable theory e.g. how to unscrew a drop, pull a pad etc., you can get away with hiring low paid helpers. This bodes well for the bean counters in charge of a lot of systems now. I remember a system that told me all they needed was one 'tech' per shift and they would save money. The system has been sold 4 times and the bean counter is no longer in the business. The system has been upgraded to fiber and they sweep in rotation, sometimes getting to a sub who thought the poor signal was normal and hardly watched. Now their added value chanel penetration is rising. No need to go on at length about watching and taking care of your system as you sound like a pro 'preventative maintenance' tech.
