I know a single mom that lives on $10.00 an hour, barely. She rents a house from her boss, for far less than the going rent in the area and works side jobs whenever she can get them. The reason she keeps the job is because they work with her on scheduling so she can pick her son up from school and be a good mom. She doesn't make enough to save anything and if she lived in a part of the country with a higher cost of living she wouldn't make it.
