The way the rest of the world works =
You, as a contractor, provide labor, materials and insurance to offer a service. You look at a specification and submit a price to do that one service. You have the work inspected upon completion and get paid. If a defect is noticed your customer will call you to fix it. If you don't respond they will take some of your money.....that they still hold...and fix the defect. The "fix" is charged back to you. The exact details are in the contract you sign.
In the world of satellite & cable the term contractor is often used to refer to workers who are actually treated as employees but used as contractors. The charge back can be used to balance the books.
"Men there will be some chargebacks on your next few checks. Your work is fine but corporate wants to cover a pallet of recorders that went missing from the warehouse loading dock. It is what it is."
You are correct to ask your question going in .
