Thinking back to the last hurricane to hit Richmond . We were contracting for Comcast .They worked us like dogs ,I recall the first day I think we worked till 2:30 am . The second day we had just got back to the motel around 8:30 pm and then at 9:30 pm we were called back out . I remember it well. We rolled 7 line trucks and three splicers ,we drove over thirty minutes to get there ,it was to try to get cable back on to one of comcast's managers house. Every body was tired .When we reached the neighbor hood we were looking for, it looked like a war zone . We proceeded to the address we were looking for. It was back in an easement.We left all the trucks but mine on the main road. My one ton was an old Duke power company truck ,posi rear , and directional spotlight and insulated boom. Everybody got out of their trucks and walked into the easment I drove . I stopped at the amp that fed the managers house .Got in the bucket and boomed up ,everybody on the ground watching me ,I took my nut driver out to open the amp can to check signal and Hawkeye says hey brother you better hot stick that thing . I put on my hot gloves and touched the stick to the amp it glowed 400,000 volts if I remember it correctly. Every one on the ground gasped .With all the years of experience I have I could have been dead or lost an arm or something.Fatigue causes your mind not to think clearly , thats the only thing I can figure. If not for Jay Peterson (Hawkeye2) I might not be here to write this.So to the MSO's think about how hard you push contractors when you read this.All the Cable in the world isn't worth a life.............Thanks for reading..........."WHITFIELD"
