I know you were Big-D. And yes ( I miss-spoke ) the phone co. did use a type of coax for communication reasons (not T.V.) from the 50s to the 80s and maybe into the 90s in some areas.  And you are right you cannot prelash the kind of coax used by CATV, it's to fragile and you need expansion loops.

 PS. Sorry I had to reply to you. danimal mentioned hundreds of miles in Ct. and I'm sure thats L-carrier. He has me on ignore. I think it's a religious thing.
